Why is there a gap in the cat's ear

A gap in the cat's ear means that it is a stray cat and has been  sterilized. There are many hospitals and charitable organizations that capture and sterilize stray cats to avoid the uncontrolled breeding of stray cats and the loss of ecological balance.

In order to prevent sterilized stray cats from being caught for repeated surgery, a small mark will be made on the ear. Generally, stray cats with notches on the left ear are male cats and those with notches on the right ear are female cats.

There is also a small opening at the base of the cat's ear, which may be the "Henrys Pocket", also known as pouch ear in Japan, which is a unique structure of the cat's ear.
